This boy LOVES music.

It was first apparent when Blues Clues Big Musical Movie, a 90 minute Blues Clues which has a great segment on the different components of music for children, became his favorite movie. Last January he was singing along with Ray Charles and matching Steve’s dance moves with such enthusiasm. He would also sing the regular songs from the show.

Now he’s singing the entire Alphabet Song perfectly! Ethan used to loop it at the end – “… Now I know my ABC DEF GH…” and now I think he’s almost forgotten the song! So I’m not really sure how Jared learned it! But he sings the whole thing through over and over. And sometimes he kinda raps/chants it but gets all the letters right.

I’ve enrolled Jared in a music class at Jingle Jamboree that meets once a week. Mostly other 2 year olds. The teacher uses the Kodaly Method (pronounced ko die). It includes music and movement and props. The movement isn’t so fun for me – it’s a lot of up and down off the floor at 8 months pregnant!!! Mostly he’s watching and listening and soaking it in but he loves to play with the toys. And sometimes he sings the songs when he gets home. Here’s a little on the Kodaly Method.

Glen also introduced the kids to the intellectually stimulating movie “School of Rock” recently. Now Jared’s favorite toys are the 2 guitars we have. They are out of batteries so they don’t make any noise, but Jared holds them and sings snippets of the School of Rock song and poses as a rocker a lot.

Finally, a “friend” (what were they thinking?) sent me this link to a parody of an Aerosmith video and Jared insisted on watching it about a hundred times.
